Read below why our region is the perfect destination for a holiday with children.
Beautiful beaches and fresh sea air
If you are looking for beautiful beaches and fresh sea air, then you will find the perfect destination for you at De Kust Holiday Homes. In the Callantsoog region there are several beaches that you can enjoy with your children, such as the widest beach in North Holland, the beach of Groote Keeten and the beach of Julianadorp. Enough space to swim, play and relax and enjoy calm and clear sea water. The kids will love playing in the waves and building sand castles while you enjoy the sun and the view. That means enjoying quality time with your children to the fullest! It has also been scientifically proven that spending time at the sea reduces stress and contributes to a better night's sleep. What else do you want?
Cycling tours and walks
In addition to the beaches, there are also beautiful dunes, forests and nature reserves that you can explore with your children. They form the perfect backdrop for a bike ride, walk or other exciting adventure. Bring your own bikes or simply rent them from us. Explore the region at your own pace, enjoy the beautiful views, the picturesque villages and discover hidden gems.
Water sports activities
If your children are older and like more adventurous activities, they can go kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking or even horse riding on the beach. It's even more fun if you join in too. The North Holland coast offers the perfect conditions for these (water) sports. There are several surf schools and water sports companies in the area that can teach you the tricks of the sport and where you can rent equipment.
Activities for younger children
A holiday with children should especially be fun for the younger children. The beach is of course already the ideal playground and there are plenty of activities they can do, such as building sand castles, looking for shells and flying kites. There are many nice playgrounds and there are several child-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious meal together. The Land of Fluwel in Sint Maartenszee is highly recommended for families with young children. Here children can participate in various activities, such as a treasure hunt through the forest and making their own ice cream. In Sint Maartenszee you will also find Playpark De Goudvis, which has both an indoor and outdoor playground and a restaurant.
Day trips and adventure activities
If you want to experience some more culture, there are several attractions near Callantsoog that you can visit. Consider, for example, the Naval Museum in Den Helder. This museum offers an interactive experience showcasing the history of the Dutch Navy. You have a beautiful view of the sea from the roof of the museum and you can even board a real submarine. In Den Helder you will also find Fort Kijkduin, the most exciting fort in the Netherlands, where children can learn about the history of the fort and the sea.
From Den Helder you can reach the Wadden Island of Texel in 20 minutes. Take your bicycles or car on the ferry and go out for a day to experience the island feeling.
If you like cheese, the cheese market in Alkmaar is always fun to visit. For families interested in local history, a visit to Radboud Castle in Medemblik is a great way to learn more about the Middle Ages in the Netherlands. The castle has a rich history and offers a unique insight into life in the past. Animal lovers can visit the Hoenderdaell animal park in Anna Paulowna. Here you can view all kinds of animals, from giraffes and zebras to monkeys and parrots. There is also a playground where children can play while adults can relax on one of the benches.
Are your children real daredevils? Then go climbing in Streekbos Climbing Park. Here you can climb and clamber in the trees, zip line and do other challenging activities. The park is suitable for children from 8 years old and offers different courses for different ages and levels.
