Walking routes in Groote Keeten
The extensive beach and beautiful dune area are ideal places for lovely walks. Next to the large parking lot there is a starting point for three walking routes (2, 5 or 8 kilometers).
The green detour Botgat passes through terrain that was a military area until 2005 and has been returned to nature by Landschap Noord-Holland. The damp dune valley on the south side is now open to hikers. 'Botgat' refers to the excavated skeletons of soldiers shot dead during the English invasion of 1799.
The orange route follows after the Botgat detour and the roughened Helmdijk and the Noordschinkeldijk. Then into the polder, over the grass verge along the mill ditch and after the pumping station further over asphalt. Back to square one via the Callas Road and Callassande nature trail.
The blue route runs via the beach and over the Callasande nature trail, to De Venne, which was wetted in 1997 by Landschap Noord-Holland.
