The ideal holiday home for a wonderfully relaxing stay. The holiday home is located behind the owner's house and suitable for a maximum of 3 people. Den Helder has various sights, activities and of course you can also enjoy the beautiful nature.
Holiday home Merel is located behind the owner's house, opposite the Refugium, the nature reserve between the Donkere Duinen and the Hengstepad.
On the ground floor there is the living room, kitchen and a bathroom. The bathroom has a shower, sink, toilet, washing machine and dryer. The bedroom is on the top floor/loft and is accessible by a steep staircase from the living room. It is possible to use the sauna/gym facility, which is accessible via a separate entrance door on the side of the holiday home.
This is the ideal holiday home for the sporty holidaymaker. You can cycle there, via the cycle network using junction routes. Endless walking along dune paths, beach, dike and forest and even via the LAW, the Long-Distance Walking Path from North to South of the Netherlands. Enjoy swimming in the sea, surfing and SUPing. Explore Den Helder and the surrounding area by canoeing via the canoe route.
The house is intended for people who love peace, space and nature. It has a secluded rear garden of approximately 500 metres, large, with a private south facing terrace and ample free on street parking to the front. Across the street you will also find "The REFUGIUM", a nature reserve with special plants, including orchids. It is grazed by Scottish Highland cattle and is a refuge for birds, swans and ducks. In addition, the Hengstepad takes you, walking and cycling, to the forest, dunes, beach and sea and to the nature reserves "De Grafelijkheidsduinen and Mariendal".

You can walk to the visitor center of Noord-Hollands Landschapsbeheer, "De Helderse Vallei", where you will also find a petting zoo, playground, lookout tower, barefoot path, climbing center, canoe rental with the start of a kilometer-long canoe route and finally the pancake house. Walking through the dunes you will reach Fort Kijkduin, where you can view a fortification built by Napoleon and visit the sea aquarium. Nearby is “De Lange Jaap”, the lighthouse of Den Helder. Even the shopping center is within walking distance with a number of supermarkets, such as Lidl, Vomar and Albert Heijn.

The station with a train every half hour to Schagen, Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Arnhem and final destination Nijmegen.
The ferry to Texel sails every hour [on the half hour] to Texel and back.
Wadden trips by boat and mudflat hiking are organized from Den Oever.
There is a very interesting visitor center on the Dutch waterworks on the Afsluitdijk at Kornwerderzand, with numerous educational activities.
In Bergen you can visit Museum Kranenburg, with a permanent exhibition of painters from the Bergen school and themed exhibitions.
Alkmaar also has a beautiful municipal museum, with the history and cultural heritage of that region.
In Enkhuizen you will find the Zuiderzee Museum, with an open-air museum about fishing.
